This weekend provides a great opportunity for high school volleyball fans in Coweta County to get their fix.
It starts with Heritage, the defending GISA state champions, hosting the two-day 16-team state tournament.
Heritage brings a 24-5 record into the tournament and a six-game winning streak.
The Lady Hawks begin defense of their title on Friday against Holy Spirit Prep at 2:30.
Six seniors will try and close out their high school careers with a second straight title including Adria Pierce, Carissa Vazquez, Tricia Underwood, Francis Powell, Andrea Caceres and Emily Cushing.
In the GHSA tournament, Coweta County Cup Champion East Coweta plays North Paulding in the Class 7A tournament and Northgate meets Dacula in the Class 6A after both earned No.1 seeds.
This year at the GHSA tournament, the No. 1 seeds will host two first-round matches with the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds playing first on Saturday, so No. 2 seed Newnan makes the long trek to Camden County for a match against Hillgrove in the Class 7A bracket and No. 2 seed Trinity stays in Atlanta to play St. Vincents at Holy Innocents in the Class A/AA private school bracket.
East Coweta enter the first round against North Paulding with a 28-13 record and a Region 2 7A championship. North Paulding has struggled with a 17-22 record.
East Coweta won the Region 2 7A championship that included two victories over rival Newan last weekend.
In the first match against the Lady Cougars, East Coweta won 2-1. In the championship, the Lady Indians swept the Lady Cougars 2-0.
East Coweta senior Becca Sieckmann begins the postseason with 503 kills and 173 digs. Junior Maddie Stewart has 286 kills and 19 aces. Nahla Muhammad has 106 kills and 199 digs.
Newnan finished the regular season with a 23-15 season. Despite a No. 3 seed, Hillgrove finished the regular season with a 23-11 record.\
Newnan junior Mary Beth Headley has 341 kills and 142 digs. Senior Morgan Sestrich has 211 kills and 67 digs.
Madison Headley has 122 kills and 30 digs.
Northgate comes into the state tournament in the Class 6A bracket as the No. 1 seed after winning the Region 5A championship.
The Lady Vikings, who finished the year with a 28-18 record, take on Dacula, who finished with a 20-26 record and earned a No. 4 seed out of Region 8.
Seniors Kylie Callochio, Kaela Busby, Emily Dozier, Paton Gaston and Mary Lauren Golden helped lead the Lady Vikings back to the state tournament.
Trinity Christian completed its first regular season as a member of the GHSA with a 27-6 record and will enter the postseason with a 27-6 record and a No. 2 seed out of Region 2 1A.
The Lady Lions lost 3-0 to Eagle’s Landing Christian in the region title match to set up its first-round showdown with St. Vincents.
Adyson Taylor leads Trinity with 246 kills and 47 aces. Keela Jordan has 218 kills and 77 digs. Savannah Poling has 116 kills and 52 aces.
The second-round of the GHSA volleyball tournament will be played at the home gym of the higher seed.
