Northgate splits games

The Northgate Lady Vikings softball team won once and lost once in the Region 5 6A tournament Wednesday.

Northgate fell to host Alexander 3-1 but came back and beat South Paulding for the second time in the tournament 10-8.

Wednesday night’s contest against South Paulding went eight innings.

Northgate took a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the second but didn’t score again until pushing four runs across the plate in the eighth highlighted by Alissa Bolinger’s home run.

Bolinger finished with four RBIs. Ashley Kent and Natalie Heath each drove in two runs.

Olivia Cato and Alexis Brandon also had an RBI.

Cato also struck out six. Madison Lumpp and Abbie Anglin one each.

Against Alexander, Northgate fell behind 2-1 after three innings, and then gave up an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth.

Despite the loss to Alexander, Northgate out hit Lady Cougars 10-8.

Alissa Bolinger pounded out three hits and drove in the Lady Vikings’ only run of the game.

Ashley Kent and April Jernigan each had two hits against Alexander.

Natalie Heath, Sarah Turi and Olivia Cato also had one hit apiece.

Madison Lummp pitched all six innings striking out three.
