Annual Central High picnic planned for Oct. 27

Central High School classes of 1956-70 will hold their annual picnic Saturday, Oct. 27.

The picnic will be held at Boston Farm, 919 Miller Road in Hogansville beginning at 11 a.m.

Barnett appointed legislative liaison

District 4 representative Beth Barnett was appointed the Coweta County Board of Education’s legislative liaison at the board’s Oct. 9 meeting.

Barnett will serve as part of the Georgia School Boards Association’s Legislative Liaison Network for the 2019 session of the Georgia General Assembly and attend the GSBA’s summer conference in Savannah in June of 2019.

Guy named program coordinator

Dr. Marc Guy, assistant superintendent of Coweta County schools, was re-appointed non-discrimination, Title IX and Equity in Sports compliance coordinator for the school system for 2018-2019. Guy, who has coordinated the programs for several years, was unanimously re-appointed at the Coweta County Board of Education’s Oct. 9 meeting.

School board approves early December payroll

The Coweta County Board of Education approved the early distribution of December payroll. At its Oct. 9 meeting, the board voted to continue its tradition of ensuring employees receive their paychecks before winter break. December payroll will be issued on Dec. 19 this year.

Field trips to include Hollywood, Disney, D.C.

Coweta County students are going places after the Coweta County Board of Education approved several large-scale field trips at its Oct. 9 meeting.

East Coweta High School’s Marching Indians band was granted permission to participate in the Hollywood Christmas Parade in Los Angeles Nov. 26-Dec. 2, 2019; East Coweta’s JROTC cadets will travel to Washington, D.C. June 2-7, 2019; Newnan High School’s history bowl team will travel to the national championship in Washington, D.C. April 24-28, 2019; and Poplar Road Elementary School’s chorus and drama club will travel to Orlando, Fla., for the Acting 101 and the Young Performer Edition of the Disney Performing Arts Workshops May 21-24, 2019.
