The sounds of chips and dice hitting gaming tables, bells of winning casino machines and people placing bets will soon fill the Donald W. Nixon Centre.
The Southeastern Assistance in Healthcare will host its annual Friends of the Fight benefit on Saturday, Nov. 3. This year’s theme is “Casino Night.”
“There will be 16 gaming tables. When people check in, they’ll get ‘funny money,’” explained Lana Mobley, patient liaison for Southeastern Assistance in Healthcare (SAIH). “With each purchase of ‘funny money,’ they’ll get a raffle ticket for the chance to win three big prizes.
“We’re also holding a silent auction,” Mobley added. “We have a pair of authentic Elton John glasses people can bid on in person and online.”
All the proceeds from Casino Night and the silent auction will go to the Southeastern Assistance in Healthcare.
The organization helps cancer patients going through treatments with non-medical financial needs, such as assistance in paying utility bills, gas and groceries, just to name a few.
Mobley said the SAIH distributes more than $30,000 to 150-200 patients throughout a nine-county area, including Coweta County.
“We can accept any patient, in any treatment center, in those nine county areas,” Mobley said. “Our patient counts have doubled in the past few months, so we need to raise more money. Our budget hasn’t increased, but our patients have.”
SAIH currently provides financial support for patients at Piedmont Newnan, Fayette and Henry, Emory, Northside, Georgia Cancer Specialists, among others.
Mobley said the casino night will have something for everyone.
“There will be amazing food and drinks, plus raffles. You don’t have to gamble if you don’t want to,” Mobley said. “If you don’t know how to gamble, it’s OK. The dealers will walk you through each game. Or you can just buy a raffle ticket or something from our silent auction. Then you’re still supporting the patients.”
The Friends of the Fight Casino Night will be Nov.3 from 6-10 p.m. at the Nixon Centre, 1515 Lower Fayetteville Road.
