Trinity Christian softball and volleyball teams earned non-region victories on Monday on the road.

The Lady Lions’ softball lineup went nine innings for a 10-6 win at Flint River after breaking through with five runs in their final at-bat.

Trinity’s volleyball team, meanwhile, swept Fayette County 3-0 in a 25-16, 25-12, 25-22 effort. The trip to Fayetteville also included a sweep of both Fayette County and Northgate in junior varsity action.

Both lineups return to region play on Tuesday at home. The volleyball team hosts an Area tri-match with Our Lady Mercy and Landmark in a tri-match.

Just outside the gym, the softball team will be battling Holy Innocents in a 5:55 p.m. first pitch.

Claire Carson and Laney Armistead each had three hits as Trinity evened its overall record at 6-6. Armistead had a team-high 4 RBIs in an effort that included a triple, while Carson connected on a go-ahead solo homer in the seventh.

Flint River plated an unearned run to send the game to extra innings. Despite being able to take advantage of an opportunity in the eighth starting with Armistead’s leadoff single, Trinity managed to break through in the ninth with five runs on five hits.

Gracie Taylor’s leadoff single began a rally that continued with a go-ahead hit by Jordan Boyd. With runners on first and second and two outs, Armistead continued her hot hitting with a 2 RBI single to center.

Trinity then continued to break the game open on a double from Brianna Boyd, followed by an RBI single from Kendall Wells.

Boyd, who went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, also closed out the victory after coming on in the bottom of the first as Flint River jumped ahead 3-2.

Flint River only managed to score lone runs in the fifth, sixth and ninth from there against Boyd, who struck out six.

Trinity stayed aggressive on the basepaths with five stolen bases in seven attempts.
