September marks the birthday of The Newnan Times-Herald, and we are celebrating all month long.
Celebrate with us as we continue to provide news coverage that began in the days just after the Civil War. The first issue of The Newnan Herald was published Sept. 9, 1865 – Georgia first newspaper founded after the war’s end.
The newspaper has been through many changes in the century and a half since that first issue. What remains is a commitment to keep Coweta’s residents informed and to provide a reliable advertising medium for businesses seeking to reach those readers.
There have been several mergers, ending with the purchase of the newspaper by the Thomasson family in 1946. The Thomassons founded The Newnan Times in 1936 and combined the two papers into a single publication in 1947.
In an era of increasing corporate media ownership, The Times-Herald remains a newspaper where the owner lives locally and is in and out of the newspaper office regularly.
We have added to our news outreach with Newnan-Coweta Magazine and several speciality publications, as well as with a robust and vital online presence. We may be the county’s oldest business, but there only thing old-fashioned about us is our commitment to truth and fairness.
As we celebrate our birthday, we want to make it easier for readers to access what we offer. Throughout the month of September, we are offering a year’s subscription for only $99. That works out to about 38 cents per issue.
