ALBANY—The Heritage Hawks improved to 4-0 Friday night with a 21-8 victory on the road against Deerfield-Windsor.
Three of Heritage’s four wins have come on the road this season.
After a scoreless first quarter, Heritage scored the first points of the game with 8:21 left in first half when quarterback Henry Arnall hit Brandon Scruggs on a 35-yard pass.
Deerfield-Windsor answered right back with a 20-yard run. Its 2-point conversion gave the Knights an 8-7 lead.
It was the last time they enjoyed the momentum.
Andrew Rich added touchdown runs of 65 and 2 yards to account for the rest of the Hawks’ scoring.
The Hawks’ defense also came up big in the contest with William Bryant and David Wright getting interceptions. Ben Carnazzo added a 10-yard sack.
Heritage returns home next week for just the second time this year when it plays host to defending GISA state champion Valwood.
Griffin Christian 14, Central Christian 6: In a battle of two sets of Crusaders, Griffin came into Sharpsburg Friday night and spoiled Central Christian’s home opener.
It was Central Christian’s first time playing 11-man football in front of their home fans.
With the loss, Central Christian fell to 1-3.
Central Christian heads to Skipstone in Griffin next week.
