The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Asian Chef, 941 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected July 11 and received a score of 85-B. Inspector’s comments: Vegetables stored in walk-in cooler uncovered. New violation. Black mold present in ice machine and food particles present inside of microwave. Microwave cleaned during inspection New violation.

BBQ Kitchen, 98 Jackson St., Newnan – was inspected July 10 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed unwashed produce over ready-to-eat food. Moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed cold-holding temperature control for safety food above 41F. Iced during inspection. New violation.

Chylacas Mexican Restaurant Bar and Grill, 20 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected July 6 and received a score of 85-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed meats thawing in sink at room temperature. Discussed proper thawing methods with manager. New violation. Observed leak under three-compartment sink. New violation.

Culver’s, 311 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected July 10 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed lemon pieces on lemon wedger. Returned to dishwashing area during inspection. Pieces of date mark stickers present on clean lids and bins on drying rack. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries, 240 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected July 9 and received a score of 100-A.

Hardee’s, 231 Temple Ave., Newnan – was inspected July 10 and received a score of 82-B. Inspector’s comments: Black mold on the inside of ice machine. Food particles on slicer. Dicer in need of cleaning. Inside of microwave in need of cleaning. Residue on inside of scoop holder. New violation. Observed metal pans wet-stacked. New violation.

Kettleworks LLC,  84 Temple Ave., Newnan – was inspected July 12 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: One employee with hair restraint. New violation. Observed wet wiping cloth hanging in kettle area. No sanitizer made up yet. New violation.

McDonald’s, 1425 Hwy. 29 S, Newnan – was inspected July 12 and received a score of 85-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee wearing gloves wipe head, touch pockets and then return to preparing food without changing gloves. New violation. Observed mold on deflector shield of ice machine. Wiped off during inspection. Person in charge stated ice machine would be emptied and cleaned. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Monarch House Assisted Living, 299 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected July 10 and received a score of 85-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed bag of sugar not in sealed container. New violation. Observed dish machine not sanitizing dishes. Certified food safety manager instructed employee to use three-compartment sink until dish machine is repaired. Many attempts were made to receive sanitization from the dish machine. New violation.
