The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Hungry Howie’s Pizza, 390 Bullsboro Drive, Unit 8, Newnan – was inspected June 29 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed employees eating from food storage rack and open canned beverage in food service area. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed lack of hair restraint in food prep area. New violation.

Mitchell’s Shack Attack, 66 Roberts Road, Newnan –  was inspected July 5 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: No hot water available at hand-wash sink. New violation. Observed one box of meat stored on the floor. New violation.

Oasis Bar & Grill, 11 Spence Ave., Newnan – was inspected June 22 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: No label on sugar and seasonings. New violation. Boxes of limes stored on hand-wash sink. No cold water at hand-wash sink. New violation.

Smoked To Go, 2005 W. Hwy. 16, Suite 107, Newnan – was inspected June 21 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Potato salad, coleslaw, etc. not date marked. New violation. Fly strips hanging in prep area. New violation.

Subway, 30 Raymond Hill Road, Suite B, Newnan – was inspected June 29 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed product thawing on counter at room temperature. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employee making a sandwich without wearing a hair restraint. Hat on counter by handwash sink. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Uncle Maddio’s Pizza, 371 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite 1102, Newnan –  was inspected July 2 and received a score of 83-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed person-in-charge with hair pulled back, but no hair restraint present. Part of beard longer than allowed without a hair restraint. New violation. Observed dishes wet-stacked under employee drink tray. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Big Chic, 7280 E. Hwy. 16, Suite A, Senoia –  was inspected July 19 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: Some bulk food containers not labeled. New violation. No presence of sanitizer in wiping cloths. Changed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Coffee By David, 1545 McIntosh Trail, Senoia –  was inspected July 19 and received a score of 100-A.

Southern County Restaurant, 34 Chestlehurst Road, Senoia –  was inspected July 19 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Mold on internal side wall of ice machine. Food particles in container near back door. New violation. Dumpster not on pad. New violation.
