The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Johnny’s Pizza, 1899 Newnan Crossing Blvd., Newnan – was inspected on May 30 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed scoop handle touching flour. Scoop was removed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed chemical spray bottles unlabeled and stored on pizza dough prep table. Bottles were labeled and placed in proper locations. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Leaf and Bean Newnan, 22 W. Court Square., Newnan –  was inspected on May 25 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed three dead roaches on the floor in the back room under the dry storage shelving. Clean floors often enough to remove dead pests. New violation.

McMaster Barbecue & Catering Co., 7285 E. Hwy. 16,  Suite F, Newnan – was inspected on May 25 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed a container of utensils stored in different directions. Utensils are to be stored with handle up to prevent contamination. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed date marking stickers still present on clean dishes. Stickers are to be removed before washing dishes. New violation.

The Tomato House, 42 Main St., Suite B, Senoia– was inspected on May 25 and received a score of 72-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed open bags of spinach and mixed greens in the walk-in cooler with no date marking. Date was added. Corrected on-site. New violation. Scoop handle touching sugar in the sugar bin. Handle is to be stored out of the product. New violation.

Cancer Treatment Center of America, 600 Celebrate Life Parkway, Newnan – was inspected on July 5 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed wet wiping cloths on prep surfaces and counters. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed hand washing sink with a splatter shield on left but not right side where clean dish rack is directly beside hand washing sink. New violation.

Waffle House, 229 Temple Ave., Newnan –  was inspected on May 30 and received a score of 83-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed the dish machine not getting to proper temperature. Water had dripped onto uncovered lemons, on raw hamburger meat and on the plastic covering around the desserts. Food was discarded and maintenance is present to repair. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed wet wiping cloths on counters throughout the kitchen. Sanitizer wipes are used for surfaces. Wiping cloths are to be stored in the sanitizer basin of the three-compartment sink. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Danthony’s Grill & Bar, 89 Herring Road, Newnan – was inspected on July 2 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Need employee hand washing sign at hand washing sink in main kitchen area. New violation. Observed dust on fan covers in walk-in cooler. New violation.

No. 1 Buffet, 1731 E. Newnan Road, Newnan – was inspected on July 5 and received a score of 76-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed hand washing sink near dish machine without soap or paper towels. Directed to back hand washing sink upon arrival. No paper towels at hand washing sink near grill area. New violation. Black mold build-up on deflector shield of ice machine. Knives and peeler on knife holder with food particles present. New violation.

Elegant Catering & Decor, 68 Heery Road, Newnan – was inspected on June 29 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Build-up on hood filters. Particles inside warmer. Removed to be cleaned. New violation.

Fatboys Bar & Grill, 485 Hwy. 16 W,  Newnan – was inspected on June 29 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed an employee chewing while in kitchen area at grill. Observed employee with drink on shelf in outside storage area. Corrected on-site.New violation. Observed two hood filters with grease buildup. New violation.

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Newnan, 2102 E. Newnan Crossing Blvd., Newnan – was inspected on July 5 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Light build-up on drink nozzles. Small food particles inside microwave in dining area. Some sticker pieces left on outside of food storage bins on drying rack. New violation.
