Jack Bernard's essay, “Immigration supported by most Americans,” 8.2.2018, is the most lucid analysis of the immigration issue I have read.
I ran an English language program in Florida for a few years, and I can testify that our Hispanic students were good people. By the way, the test for citizenship would be very difficult for the average citizen, but we had many who passed.
Latinos are hard-working, family-oriented and religious. This country needs more of this kind of citizen. As an added benefit to the Republican party – as distinguished from the Trumpista tribe – Hispanics are frequently small business people and have values that the traditional Republican party espouses.
Rather than fearing them, we should welcome them.
