The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Monkey Joe’s, 354 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected on June 11 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed paper plates and plastic sauce cups stored underneath soap and paper towel dispensers at front food service hand wash sink. Items relocated during inspection to prevent possible contamination. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed food particles in bottom of reach-in cooler and in freezer. Observed buildup on wire basket where pizza cutter is stored. New violation. Employee beverages in disposable cups with lids and straws stored on back counter in front food service area. Removed during inspection. Employee items should be stored in an area away from food prep and consumer ttems. Corrected on-site. New violation. 

Reposteria Criss, 21 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected on June 11 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed a food crate with tomatoes stored underneath paper towel dispenser. Moved during inspection to avoid possible contamination. Corrected on-site. New violation. Inspection report posted inside mobile unit, not visible to the public. New violation. Plastic spoons stored handles down in dispenser, discussed proper storage with person in charge. New violation. 

Smoked To Go, 2005 Hwy. 16 W, Newnan – was inspected on June 21 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Potato salad, coleslaw and etc., not date marked. New violation. Fly strips hanging in prep area. New violation. 

Something Special at Lillian Gardens, 83 Greenville Street, Newnan – was inspected on June 21 and received a score of 100-A. 

Subway, 2344 N Hwy. 29, Newnan – was inspected on May 25 and received a score of 100-A. 

Subway, 1731B Newnan Crossing, Newnan – was inspected on May 21 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed build-up on drink nozzles. These should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation. Observed four expired orange juices in self serve drink cooler dated 5/19/18. Discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Starbucks Coffee, 733 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected on May 18 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed black mold-like substance on back wall of ice machine. Person in charge stated they would call the company to come out and service the ice machine. New violation.

Tiki Ice & Grill, 171 Turner Road, Newnan – was inspected on June 21 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Need thermometers inside cooler and freezer. New violation. Hot water needs replacing. New violation.

Redneck Gourmet Cafe, 11 North Court Square, Newnan – was inspected on May 21 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Expired 9/26/17. New violation. Hand wash signs needed in men's restroom and at hand wash sink in back kitchen area. New violation. No lid on trash can in ladies restroom. New violation. Observed dust buildup on ceiling tiles near vent grates in kitchen area and on walk-in cooler fan. New violation. Observed employee drinks and phones in kitchen prep area near can opener and microwave. All personal items and drinks should be stored in a designated area away from food and non-food contact surfaces. New violation.
