An old-time singing at Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 245 Yeager Road, will help a 3-year-old cancer victim and her family.

The singing will start at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Aubrey Kate English was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma and had a tumor and half her liver removed at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite on May 8. Because of the rare type of liver cancer, she will undergo several rounds of chemo during the next 18 weeks.

The child’s mother, a nurse at Scottish Rite, is currently out of work while serving as her daughter’s primary care provider.

The plaintive strains of bagpipes will echo through the air in Lone Oak on Sunday morning.

Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist, 4720 Lone Oak Road/Highway 54, will celebrate the Kirkin’ of the Tartans service, which has a Scottish flavor, at 11 a.m. The service will include presentation of the Bible and of tartans for various Scottish clans.

Members of the Order of the Tartan, a group of families from the West Georgia and East Alabama area who are interested in Scottish heritage and traditions, will take part in the service. Tartans will be blessed during the service, symbolically blessing all families everywhere.

A covered dish meal featuring cold summertime dishes will follow the service.
