An application for available state funding for school construction, including a new middle school, will be on the Coweta County Board of Education’s Tuesday agenda.

Board members are expected to consider a proposed 2020 fiscal year state capital outlay application, which would activate more than $8 million in state funds toward the cost of building the new middle school on Shaw Road.

School districts often are eligible for a certain amount of state money toward capital projects, and those funds typically are combined with local money earmarked for new construction, renovation and modification projects.

Coweta schools also would be eligible for $1.6 million toward the cost of adding HVAC to and reroofing gymnasiums at Moreland, Arnco-Sargent and Eastside elementary schools, as well as replacing the roofs of the media center and science building at Newnan High School.

The board also will consider bids for chool services – including pictures and nutrition program supplies – at its Tuesday meeting, which will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Board of Education building, 237 Jackson Street in Newnan.
