The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Burger King, 2814 E 34 Highway, Newnan – was inspected on May 30 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed cups overstocked behind front food service counter exposing the lip area to possible contamination. New violation.

Cafe Aloha, 775 Poplar Rd., Newnan – was inspected on June 1 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one carton of opened expired soy milk dated May 22, 2018. Discarded during inspection. Corrected on site. New violation. Observed boxes of single use items stored on the floor in storage area. Items placed on shelves during inspection. Corrected on site. New violation.

Cafe Dionne, 3500 Highway 34 E, STE. 1, Sharpsburg – was inspected on June 1 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed rolls being touched with bare hands. Discussed with person in charge. Instructed to discard during inspection. Corrected on site. New violation. Observed kitchen staff around open food without hair restraints. Corrected during inspection. Corrected on site. New violation. Observed wet wiping cloth sitting on prep table. Returned to sanitizer during inspection. Corrected on site. New violation.

Canaanland Auction, 5424 Hwy. 29 E, Newnan – was inspected on June 2 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Needs to obtain certification. New violation. Discussed not rinsing after sanitizing dishes. Wash, rinse,sanitize and air dry dishes and utensils. New violation. Flooring has been replaced and ceiling tiles have been purchased to change out and make washable. New violation.

Chopsticks China Bistro, 3150 E Highway 34 STE 304, Newnan – was inspected on May 30 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Items in prep top cooler above 41 degrees F. See temperatures for list of food items. New violation. Observed bowl being used as a scoop stored in cabbage in walk-in cooler. Observed scoop handle in flour. New violation.

Depot Grill @ Junction Lanes Family Entertainment, 141 Newnan Station Dr., Newnan – was inspected on June 1 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Black mold on drop area of ice machine. Observed food particles in microwave. Observed stickers present on food bins stored on dry dish rack. New violation. Observed foods exceeding the use by dates, such as chili date marked prep 5/22/18 and use by 5/28/18 and grilled chicken and bacon date marked prep 5/26/18 and use by 5/31/18. Items removed from service during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Hand wash sign needed at hand wash sink. New violation. Observed stained ceiling tiles in kitchen area. Black spots on ceiling tiles above ice machine. One missing ceiling tile near grill area. Split gaskets on bottom of prep top cooler, reach in freezer, and walk-in cooler door. New violation. Missing light cover on ceiling light in back prep area. New violation.

Dickey's Barbecue, 15 Thomas Grace Plaza STE 200, Sharpsburg – was inspected on June 6 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one split gasket on reach-in freezer door near fryer in need of replacing. Buildup on shelving in walk-in cooler. Shelving should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New Violation. Observed open dumpster door and missing lid. Door closed during inspection and owner stated the dumpster company has been contacted about the missing lid. Corrected on site. New violation. Dust on ceiling vents throughout establishment. New violation. Observed employee beverage in reach-in freezer. Discarded during inspection and cell phone on prep table. New violation.

Domino's Pizza, 15 Baker Rd., Newnan – was inspected on May 31 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: No hand wash sign at hand wash sink near three compartment sink. New violation. Observed pans wet stacked in dish drying area. New violation. Employee cell phones on prep table. New violation.

Green Demon at Arbor Springs, 300 Arbor Springs Parkway, Newnan – was inspected on June 1 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: CFSM/Person in charge responsibilities ensure compliance of duties listed in chapter three of the Georgia Food Service Rules and Regulations which can be found at www.georgraeh.us in the food service section. New violation. No CFSM employed. Staff with expired certificate present. Needs to be renewed. Facility has been without a CFSM prior to Jan. Rules require CFSM to enroll within 90 days of the certificate expiration date. Establishment required to notify Health Authority within 30 days of losing a CFSM with the certification number of the former CFSM and the measure taken to designate a new CFSM. New violation. Observed Gatorade bottle stored above rolls. No drinking in food prep area unless a disposable cup with lid and straw is used and stored away from food, equipment, utensils, linens and single service items. New violation. Observed hand washing sinks without water due to water break. Facility operations ceased during inspection. New violation. Observed build up on tea nozzles downstairs not in use during inspection, can opener in upstairs kitchen and inside chafing dish lids in dining area. New violation. Observed leak in banquet area dripping onto the floor in storage room where catering items are stored. Everything in the room must be washed, rinsed, sanitized and air dried before using. Observed tool box, phone, walkie talkies and unwashed onions on a prep table near slicer. But slicer is not being used. Wing on pan rack cooling 43 uncovered below covered bowls of food items. Cover once cool and protect while cooling. New violation. Observed comb in bar area beside condiments. New violation. Observed wet wiping cloth on prep table by open pan of chips. New violation. Observed utensils at grill being held at 75 F .Review rules for in-use utensil holding.  Moved to grill to hold over l35 F during inspectron. New violation. Observed pans, plastic and metal, with cracks. Remove from service. Observed rusted shelves in one door cooler. Replace with washable shelving. New violation. No water available due to water break. No pre-approved plan to operate. Food service closed until repair is made. New violation. Observed leak dripping from ceiling in storage room below. New violation.

HJ Wings and Things, 20 Thomas Grace Annex Lane STE F, Sharpsburg – was inspected on June 6 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Expired milk dated 6/01/18 in walk-in cooler. New violation. Employee hand wash sign needed at front hand wash sink. New violation. Two different inspection reports posted. Current inspection posted close to bar area. Only the current inspection report should be posted. New violation. Boxes of single service items such as straws and food containers stored on the floor near storage rack. New violation. Split gaskets on walk-in cooler door and reach-in cooler door. Cracked storage container holding white substance underneath microwave, in need of replacing. Build-up on shelves in kitchen area, need to be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation.

Marco’s Pizza, 1111 Bullsboro DR STE 4, Newnan – was inspected on June 20 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Front hand wash sink missing hot water knob. Hot water not accessible. New Violation. No soap at hand wash sink in back prep area. New violation. Pizza boxes stacked on the floor, moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. One cracked food bin containing pepperoni in the walk-in cooler, container is damaged and should be discarded. New violation. Observed dust build-up on fan grate in walk-in cooler. Caulk needed behind both hand wash sinks. New violation.

Newnan Senior Center, , 29 Hospital RD, Newnan – was inspected on June 1 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed brooms stored directly on floor. Install hooks and hang. New violation.
