The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Barnes & Noble, 342 Newnan Crossing Bypass E, Newnan – was inspected on May 3 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Single-service forks and knives stored in container with fork handles stored down and knife handle stored in multiple directions. New violation. Apron stored on bananas. Moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Bahama Blast, 38 Stonewood Way, Sharpsburg –  was inspected on May 4 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed towels used for drying hands after handwashing. New violation. Employees prepping open food must wear hair restraints. Have hats available. New violation.

Beez Freeze, 7285 Hwy 16, Suite F, Senoia – was inspected on April 18 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed milkshake mixer with buildup present. New violation. Observed ice cream cones next to handwash sink from the day before. New violation.

Burger King, 415 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected on May 4 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed an open pack of lettuce and an opened pack of ham in the walk-in cooler with no date mark. A date was added to the items. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed a open container of flour rolled down on a shelf below the prep top table in the main kitchen. Opened food items are to be sealed after opening. Employee placed flour in a closable plastic bag. Corrected on-site. New violation.

CC’s Wings & Things, 23 Franklin Road, Newnan – was inspected on April 26 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Bulk food containers in need of labeling. New violation. No certified food safety manager obtained yet. New violation.

Christy’s Cafe, 27 Jackson St.,  Newnan – was inspected on May 9 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Residue on lower deflector shield of ice machine and food particles present on inside of the microwave. New violation.

El Charro Newnan, Inc., 77 Bullsboro Drive,  Newnan – was inspected on May 1 and received a score of 81-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed scoop handle stored in chicken bullion touching product. New violation. Observed tomato sauce with a open date of April 16 and tomato paste with an open date of April 9 in the prep top cooler. Date checked is May 1. This exceeds the seven-day maximum discard requirement. Items were discarded. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Home 2 Suites by Hilton, 27 Jackson St.,  Newnan – was inspected on April 26 and received a score of 85-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed chemicals on shelf with apples and single-service gloves. New violation. Observed three boxes of breakfast items on the floor. New violation.

Jacob’s Table, 15 Barnes St., Suite 1C, Senoia –  was inspected on April 18 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed salads and cut melon open in reach-in cooler not cooled prior to placing into cold holding display unit. New violation. Observed a small amount of buildup of tea nozzles. Washed, rinsed and sanitized during inspection after nozzle was properly broken apart. Corrected on-site. New violation.

La Quinta Inn, 600 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected on April 25 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Post food service permit. New violation. Observed cups in a wire rack without drinking surfaces protected. New violation.

Magic Wings & Things, 47 E. Newnan Road, Newnan –  was inspected on May 7 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: Need certified food safety manager. New violation. Buildup present on shelving and ceiling of kitchen area. New violation.

McDonald’s, 1721 Newnan Crossing Blvd. E, Newnan –  was inspected on May 1 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Wiping cloth solution was weak. New solution was prepared. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed a buildup in the microwaves. New violation.

McDonald’s, 3190 Hwy. 34 E., Newnan –  was inspected on May 3 and received a score of 72-C. Inspector’s comments: Ice scoop handle touching ice in ice machine. Scoop was removed. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed buildup of pink mold present on ice dispenser in the dining area. Maintenance was present to remove dispenser. Discussed with manager about increasing cleaning frequency of ice dispensers. Observed stickers present on clean dishes. Stickers are to be removed before washing to ensure dishes are completely clean. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Subway, 1010 E. Hwy. 34, Newnan –  was inspected on May 2 and received a score of 70-C. Inspector’s comments: Cucumber seeds on slicer. New violation. Employee did not wash hands prior to putting gloves on. New violation.
