Paula Broussard Smith will speak at Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church, 72 Robinson St. on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Newnan Chapel will be holding its Pastor Appreciation Day for Terrilyn Lemons. Smith is from Liberty United Methodist Church in Brentwood, Tenn.

While listening to a sermon on Jeremiah 29: 11-13, Smith began to discern a call from God into vocational ministry. With the support of her church family, Ousley United Methodist Church, she began matriculating at Chandler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, where she earned a master of divinity degree.

Her gifts for ministry were affirmed by the Tennessee Annual Conference when she became licensed as a local pastor in September 2012 and then as a provisional elder in 2013.

In May 2018, Smith received a doctor of ministry degree from Wesley Theological Seminary, and she will be ordained as an elder in June 2018.

Smith has served as pulpit assistant at Ousley United Methodist Church, as student minister at First Street United Methodist Church in post-Katrina New Orleans, as a Wesleyan group leader with the World Methodist Evangelism Institute in Fiji, as part-time youth pastor at Clark Memorial United Methodist Church and part-time associate pastor at McKendree United Methodist Church in Nashville.

She was also a participant in the Wesley Pilgrimage in England. She now serves as lead
pastor at Liberty.

Her husband, Bobby, and daughter, Brianna, share in her ministry.

The theme for Sunday’s service will be “A Pastor After God’s Heart” with Jeremiah 3:15 and Ephesians 4:11-13 as the Scripture.
