Powell Chapel United Methodist Church will be holding its first Barbecue Cook-Off and Flea Market on June 23.

The event will be held from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at the church, 586 Old Atlanta Highway. Registration for the cook-off, which includes at vendor’s fee is $50 today, $60 starting Saturday.

The registration fee covers all categories: pork butts, pork ribs, chicken.

Entrants can set up as early at 6 a.m., and judging will begin at 2 p.m. Meat can be prepped ahead of time, but must be cooked on site.

Flea market and food vendor registration is $25 today and $30 starting Saturday. For registration information, contact Travis Jefferson at 678-326-6091 or Clarence “Peanut” Geter at 770-634-9071.

Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church, 72 Robinson St., will hold its Men's Day program on Sunday.

The service will start at 10 a.m. The speaker will be Elder Kelvin Williams from New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville.

Greater Jehovah Baptist Church in Grantville will celebrate its 137th Church Anniversary and Father's Day on Sunday.

Worship will start at 11 a.m. Chris McCambry, pastor of the church, will preach.

“Dinner will be served,” church member Ruby Hines said. “Everyone is invited to come and help us celebrate our church anniversary.”

A gospel singing will be held at Miracle Tabernacle, 1137 Corinth Road.

New Reason, the Connells and In His Image will be singing. The service will be Sunday at 6 p.m..

Coweta Guards Camp 715, Sons of Confederate Veterans, will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the youth activity building behind Unity Baptist Church, 311 Smokey Road.

Mark Trail of New Bern, N.C. will be speaking on the Civil War in eastern North Carolina. He will talk about the four battles of  New Bern and why New Bern was so important to the Confederacy.

Trail will also talk about the Battle of Plymouth and how the CSS Albmare was used to take Plymouth. The public is invited.

Bethel Heard Baptist Church, 2484 Charlie B. Johnston Road, Franklin will hold revival  from Tuesday-Thursday.

Services will start at 7:30 p.m. Preaching will be – Tuesday, Eddie Storey, pastor of Bethel Church #2 in Opelika, Ala.; Wednesday, Lonnie Walls, pastor of Smyrna Baptist Church LaGrange; and Thursday, Julian Warner, pastor of Rose Chapel United Methodist Church, West Point.

The Trio – Carol Glover, Merry Todd and Cathy Wright – sang for worship at Central Baptist Church on May 27.

They sang “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” and “Breathe on Me, Breath of God."

The church’s chancel choir undertook a service project – serving lunch at Bridging the gap on June 6. Chancel choir members also enjoyed a dinner party on June 9 at the home of Bill and Susan Boyd.
