Lorene Turner Byrd passed away Thursday.
She was born February 15, 1930. in Fayetteville, N.C., to the late, Reverend William Edward Turner and Mrs. Pearl McMillian Turner.
Upon graduating from Bennett College, she was employed as a teacher at Ethel Kight High School and later Newnan High School where she retired. She was also employed by Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home.
She was a faithful member of St. Paul AME Church, Hogansville.
Survivors include her children, W. Olin (Mary) Byrd, III, Fayetteville, D. Lynette Byrd, LaGrange, Patrice (James) Benson, Auburn, Ala., and Maurice Byrd, Irving, Texas; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one god-daughter; two brothers, Edward Turner, Rocky Mount, N.C., and William Turner, Gulf Port, Miss.; four sister-in-laws: Hazel Jackson, Hogansville, Lois (Frank) Jenkins, Montgomery, Ala., Tommie (Art) Lax, Kankakee, Ill., and Jettie Butler, Kennesaw; one brother-in-law, Grady (Bettye) Bryd, East Point; special cousin, Jackie Strother; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former colleagues and students.
The service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m., at St. Paul AME Church.
The family will be at their home at 217 Poplar Street.
The excellent care of Mrs. Byrd is being provided by Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home.
