The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Wishbone Fried Chicken, 32 Jefferson St., Newnan – was inspected on March 20 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Split gasket on reach-in cooler door. New violation. Bottom of screen door needs a door sweep to prevent pests. New violation.

Atkinson School Cafeteria, 14 Nimmons St., Newnan –  was inspected on March 27 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dried food particles on slicer. Returned to dish area to to properly wash, rinse and sanitize during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Walk-in fan has one fan not operating that may be causing some ice buildup on ceiling. New violation.

Best Western Shenandoah Inn – food service, 620 Hwy. 34 E.,  Newnan – was inspected on March 27 and received a score of 79-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed inside of microwave upper area with dried food particles present. Cleaned during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed dish machine not sanitizing and no heat sanitization verification provided. Discussed with person-in-charge who realized there was another setting for the machine that could be used to provide dish sanitization. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Captain D’s, 1369 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected on March 29 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed mold buildup inside the back of the ice container at the front service container. New violation. Buildup in and on the outside of microwaves. New violation.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, 527 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected on March 26 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: Employee touching mouth part of silverware to wrap. Silverware moved to dish area. Corrected on-site. New violation. Damaged bag of pancake mix spilling on storage shelf. Open bag of rice stored on storage shelf. Corrected on-site. New violation.

East Coweta Middle School Cafeteria, 6291 Hwy. 16 E., Senoia –  was inspected on March 26 and received a score of 100-A.

Eastside Elementary School Cafeteria, 1225 Eastside School Road, Senoia –  was inspected on March 26 and received a score of 100-A.

Evans Middle School Cafeteria, 1 Evans Drive, Newnan –  was inspected on March 28 and received a score of 100-A.

Alamo Jacks/Fabiano’s Pizzeria, 19 W. Court Square,  Newnan – was inspected on March 27 and received a score of 82-B. Inspector’s comments: Cooked wings stored near raw wings and box of raw chicken. Cooked chicken moved above raw chicken during inspection. Raw beef stored beside raw sausage and bacon. Separated to add space between the two species of meat. Corrected on-site. New violation. Employee handwash sign needed in kitchen area. New violation.

Madras Middle School Cafeteria, 240 Edgeworth Road –  was inspected on March 26 and received a score of 100-A.

My Chef Mel, 75 Frances Shirey Way, Newnan –  was inspected on March 27 and received a score of 100-A.

NCG Cinema, 55 Fischer Crossing Blvd., Sharpsburg – was inspected on March 26 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed ice scooper on top of the machine. Ice scooper is to be stored on or in something washable and inverted to protect from dust. New violation. Observed boxes of straws stored on the floor in the back room. Single-service items are to be stored six inches off of the floor in a clean, dry location. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Red Lobster, 990 Bullsboro Drive,  Newnan – was inspected on March 28 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed salad tongs laying in lettuce container. New violation. Observed pans wet-stacked on drying rack. New violation.
