Free Centre Strings spring concert is Tuesday

The Centre Strings ensemble will hold its Spring Festival Concert Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Nixon Centre for the Arts.

The concert is free and will be held in the lecture hall of the Nixon Centre, 1523 Lower Fayetteville Road in Newnan.

Centre Strings is a community-student string ensemble, open to anyone who has played violin, viola, cello or upright bass for at least two years, with no age limitations. Dr. Lyn Schenbeck is the ensemble’s music director/conductor.

In addition to works by Gershwin, Debussy, Mozart, Copland, Paganini, and Schubert, the ensemble will perform “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran and “All of Me” by John Legend.

High school art reception Thursday

Visual art will be the focus on Thursday, when the Nixon Centre holds a reception to honor Advanced Placement art students from 5-7 p.m.

The reception will feature an exhibit of works by AP art students at East Coweta and Newnan high schools.
