Michelle Carter, a second grade teacher, has been named Odyssey Charter School Teacher of the Year for 2017-18.
Carter was selected by her peers for the award.
“Although there were numerous candidates nominated this year, our winner was by an overwhelming margin Ms. Michelle Carter," Principal Scot Hooper said, announcing the winner during a celebratory post-planning meeting with Odyssey’s teaching staff.
Carter, a veteran teacher who holds a degree in elementary education from Clemson University, took over a second-grade class mid-year.
“With no preparation time or assistance, Ms. Carter moved right in and began teaching,” Hooper said. “Not only did Ms. Carter receive the outstanding vote for Teacher of the Year by her peers, but we have received numerous positive comments from parents of the scholars in (her) classroom.”
Carter received a trophy and flowers. She and her fellow teachers enjoyed a celebratory cake following the presentation.
