The voter registration deadline for the May 22 nonpartisan election is Tuesday, and early voting begins April 30.

Four Coweta County School Board members are being challenged in the May 22 non-partisan election. Three of Coweta’s state representatives, as well as Congressman Drew Ferguson and Coweta County Commissioner Tim Lassetter, are being challenged in the Republican primary that day, and two men are vying for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Congress District 3.

Georgia has online voter registration, which can be done at https://registertovote.sos.ga.gov .

You can also download and print a form from the register to vote link, or you can visit the Coweta Voter Registration Office at 22 East Broad St. to register on-site. Some community locations also have forms that can be filled out and mailed. Changes of address are handled similarly to new registration applications.

Mailed applications must be postmarked by April 24.

if you’re not sure if you have a valid registration, you can check your status – and your polling place and district boundaries, and view a sample ballot at Georgia’s My Voter Page, at https://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov .

Georgia has an “open primary” system, which means voters do not register by party and can freely choose to vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary. However, a voter who votes in a specific party primary cannot then vote in the other party’s primary runoff for the same election.

Coweta’s early voting will be held for three weeks before the May 22 election, including at least one Saturday.

Voting is held at the Voter Registration office, 22 East Broad St., Newnan and at the Central Community Center, 65 Literary Lane, Newnan. Weekday hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to MVP.

Candidate forums will be held next week for all of the non-partisan and primary races, and are sponsored by the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce.

Seating is limited for the forums, which will be held at the Central Educational Center, but they will be recorded and available for viewing online. You can register for the forums, if seats remain, at http://www.newnancowetachamber.org/events/calendar

A forum for school board candidates  and Coweta County Commission candidates Tim Lassetter and Eddie Wilson will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. The Tuesday forum will also be from 6-8 p.m. and will be for the candidates for U.S. Congress District 3 and Georgia House Districts 70, 71 and 72.
