The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Arbor Springs School Cafeteria, 4840 Hwy 29 N, Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 28 and received a score of 100-A.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America Southeast,  600 Celebrate Life Pkwy, Newnan –  was inspected on Feb. 27 and received a score of 76-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed dried food particles on slicer, dishes and sharper image slicer. Check tea nozzles when empty to ensure they are clean to sight and touch. New violation. Observed wet stacking dishes. New violation.

Domino’s Pizza, 12 West Washington St.,  Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 23 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed cleaning spray hanging at handwash sink and underneath dough prep center. These items need to be returned to chemical storage after use. Observed insecticide spray can on counter in back storage area above boxes of sauce. Moved to chemical storage during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Kentucky Fried Chicken, 398 Bullsboro Dr., Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 23 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: A splash guard is needed at the hand sink in the rear of the kitchen near the fryer. New violation. Gaskets on the warming cabinet are not in good condition and need to be repaired. New violation.

Shirley’s Country Kitchen Too, 1485 Hwy 34 E, Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 26 and received a score of 84-B. Inspector’s comments: Mold buildup present on the ice dispenser in the dining area. Out of order sign was placed on the ice dispenser and ice from ice machine will be used until Pepsi can come and change the part. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed a container of tartar sauce in the walk-in cooler with a cracked lid. Observed a three compartment bin on wheels in the dish washing area with cracked lids. Cracked lids could become physical contaminants of foods and need to be placed. New violation.

Sprayberry’s Barbecue 1060 Hwy 34 E,Newnan –  was inspected on Feb. 28 and received a score of 100-A.

Wendy’s, 1645 29 Hwy S, Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 28 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Black mold on drop area of ice machine. New violation. Boxes of potatoes, fried onions, and lemonade base stored on the floor in walk-in freezer. New violation.

Zaxby’s, 759 Bullsboro Dr., Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 28 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dried lettuce and tomato seeds on slicer stored below prep table. Wash, rinse and sanitize before next use. New violation. Observed a box of napkins, tea filters, and beverage refill box stored on the floor in front of food service area. New violation.

Subway, 7280 Hwy 16 E, Newnan – was inspected on March 1 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed bad gaskets on front food service prep top coolers. New violation.

The Cellar at Firestone, 20 Jefferson St.,  Newnan – was inspected on March 5 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Dried food particles on slicer/dicer. Cleaned during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Leak under sink in dish area. New violation.

Waffle House,1363 Hwy 29 S, Newnan – was inspected on March 2 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Employee handwash signs needed in both restrooms. New violation. Observed split gasket on reach-in cooler in front food service area. New violation.
