The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant, 941 Bullsboro Dr., Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 21 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’ comments: Food particles on slicer and dicer. Moved to dish area. Corrected on-site. New violation. Need chlorine sanitizer test strips. New violation.

La Fiesta, 7 Jackson St., Newnan –  was inspected on Feb. 21 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on reach-in cooler shelves. New violation. Observed raw shell eggs stored above uncooked rice and raw shrimp stored above uncut onions and peppers in the four door in the reach-in cooler of the main kitchen. Cooler was rearranged. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Meat-N-Greet, 11 Jefferson St., Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 21 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee drinks stored on shelf with condiments. These items need to be stored in a designated area away from all food service items. New violation.

Newk’s Express Cafe, 362 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 20 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed split gasket on cooler door. New violation. Observed lime buildup in dish machine.New violation.

Olive Garden, 212 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 22 and received a score of 81-B. Inspector’s comments: Wet stacked container. New violation. Cheese 57F stored in ice bath where ice has melted. Lasagna squares 51.4 F, stuffed mushrooms 50F stored in reach-in cooler. Spinach 50F stored in bath. Products discarded. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Shun’s Wingyard, 114 Temple Ave., Newnan – was inspected on Feb.20 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed two cans of household-use pesticides stored with chemicals. All pest control services must be performed by a certified pest control specialist. New violation. Observed one split gasket on bottom of prep top cooler door. New violation.

Starlite Family Fun Center, 55 Thomas Grace Annex, Sharpsburg – was inspected on Feb. 19 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: No paper towels at front food service hand wash sink and need hand wash sign. New violation. Observed two spray bottles with cleaner present in unlabeled containers. New violation.

Subway, 50 Millard Farmer Industrial Blvd., Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 19 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on drink nozzles. New violation. Observed single-service cups on front counter overstocked exposing the lip area to possible contamination. New violation.

Subway, 3150 Hwy 34 E, Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 21 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee lunch box and bag stored on dry storage rack. New violation.

The Corner Tavern, 125 Newnan Crossing Bypass E, Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 22 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed medicine stored in kitchen area. Moved to area where personal items are stored during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. No Certified Food Safety Manager posted. Current CFSM expired and needs to be renewed. New violation.

The Oink Joint, 9 East Washington St.,  Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 19 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed a buildup on a can opener. New violation. Observed metal pans stacked wet. Dishes are to completely dry before stacking. New violation.

Wesley Woods of Newnan/Peachtree City, 2280 Hwy 29 N, Newnan –was inspected on Feb. 20 and received a score of 81-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed plastic containers wet stacked. New violation. Observed cut leafy and cut ham on salad bar at 60-63F. New violation.

Wing Stop, 311 Bullsboro Dr., Ste. 140, Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 20 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed handwash sink blocked by fryer baskets hanging dry. Moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed buildup on floors in kitchen area. New violation.
