Trinity and Dominion Christian battled to the very last pitch Tuesday in Marietta before the Knights used a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Lions 9-8 in a GISA Region 1-AAA game.
Trinity scored twice in the first inning, four times in the fifth and twice in the sixth, but couldn’t hold off Dominion Christian’s offense which was just as potent.
It was both the first loss of the season for the Lions, who fell to 9-1-1 overall and 3-1 in region play.
Dominion moved into sole possession of first place in 1-AAA at 4-0.
The Knights (10-3-1) scored three times in the third, and fifth and once in the sixth and twice in the seventh to earn the win.
Dominion Christian trailed 8-7 heading into the last of the seventh before scoring twice, and getting the game-winning hit from Michael Caldwell.
Caldwell finished the game with five RBIs and also picked up the win from the mound with an eight-strikeout performance.
Trinity finished the game with eight hits, including a two-run homer from Shep Hancock in the fifth.
Kyle Riesselmann had three hits, including a double and finished with three RBIs.
Hancock also finished with three RBIs after picking up two hits.
Riesselmann pitched five innings for the Lions, allowing three earned runs, striking out eight and walking two.
Chase Metcalf and Trevor Crews also pitched for Trinity, striking out two each.
