It's never too late for a team to find some momentum. Which is what boys lacrosse lineups are in search of while making a final push to close out the 2018 schedule over the next nine days.
Newnan headed into a non-region game against Carrollton at home on Wednesday on the heels of a 15-4 victory over Darlington.
Tristen Daly scored five goals and added an assist for the Cougars, who snapped a two-game losing streak while improving to 6-5 overall this season.
Newnan is currently one win behind a tight race for four state playoff berths in Area 2-6A/7A at 1-2, but with games left against Pebblebrook and East Coweta next week.
In the win over Darlington, Jack Johnstone and Clayton Garmany each posted three-goal games, with Johnstone an assist. He also tied teammate Brennan Johnson for the team-lead in ground balls with seven apiece.
Jack Carroll added a team-high four assists for the Cougars, which also received goals from T.J. Hill, Harrison Campbell, Michael St. John and Peyton Gale in the victory.
Newnan and East Coweta will decide this year's Coweta Cup championship trophy on April 27, at Drake Stadium.
The Indians (6-5, 2-1) sit one game behind Campbell while also heading into a key game with the Spartans tonight at home. A win would clinch at least a tie for second place heading into the regular- season finale at Newnan.
East Coweta had been idle since routing M.L. King 19-1 on April 11.
The Coweta Cup is limited to a single game this season with Northgate opting to play just a JV schedule due to numbers.
The Vikings, however, put together a 9-6 win over Whitewater's JV on Tuesday while closing out the season on Tuesday at home against Carrollton.
