The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Mama Lucia’s Restaurant, 236 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected on Feb. 1 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dish machine not producing enough chemical sanitizer to properly sanitize dishes. Dish machine was serviced on Jan. 19. Repair order placed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

McDonald’s, 58 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected on Feb. 2 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed black mold-like substance in top of ice bin in drive-thru window drink station. New violation. Observed scoop buried in ice machine. New violation.

Monkey Joe’s, 354 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite A, Newnan – was inspected on Jan. 30 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one cracked container with purchase sticker still present holding food in cooler. Observed cooler gasket and shelving with food particles present. These areas should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation.

Mother’s Kitchen, 33 ½ East Broad St., Newnan – was inspected on Jan. 29 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup present on walls behind handwash sink and in hard to reach areas. These areas should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation.

Nard’s BBQ, 5320 Hwy. 29, Grantville – was inspected on Jan. 25 and received a score of 100-A.

Avalon Health Care, LLC, 120 Spring St., Newnan –  was inspected on Jan. 31 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Buildup on wall at dish machine. Dust buildup on vent above dish machine. New violation. Observed a bag of biscuit mix rolled down in dry storage area. All food items are to be properly sealed after opening. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Lepoma’s Pizzeria, 3500 Hwy. 34, Sharpsburg –  was inspected on Jan. 31 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed chemical spray bottles without labels. New violation. Observed black mold-like substance on deflector shield of ice machine. Observed clean storage containers on drying rack with date mark stickers still present. New violation.

McMaster BBQ & Catering Co., 7285 Hwy. 16 E., Suite F, Senoia –  was inspected on Jan. 31 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw chicken above ribs and pork. The cooler was rearranged to prevent cross-contamination. Person in charge was given a handout to help with proper separation of food in cooler. Corrected on-site. New violation.

HJ Wings & Things, 31 Market Square, Suite 101, Newnan –  was inspected on Jan. 31 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dust-like buildup on ceiling near vents in dining area and and in the walk-in cooler on the fan grates and ceiling. Observed lime buildup in dish machine. New violation.
