Boards and commissions are established for the purpose of acquiring and studying information in specific areas and to make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on issues within the board’s area of expertise.
Appointments to the boards and commissions are made as member term limits come up, and recruitment for the annual appointments are on a continual basis.

By going to the city's website, , any resident can fill out an application for the county to keep in a database. Residents can click directly on the “Get Involved” button in the middle of the home page.
