The Newnan Cougars relied on a strong pitching from Logan Hudson to defeat Wheeler 5-1 on the road Friday night in the Region 2 7-A contest.
Hudson went the distance for the Cougars, allowing just three hits and striking out six.
With the win, the Cougars improved their record to 12-4 overall and 6-0 in league region action.
The Cougars took advantage of four unearned runs and two Wheeler errors.
Johnny Cash had the Cougars only RBI.
Twin brothers Elliott and Hamilton Schubert led the Cougars’ offense with a couple extra base hits.
They each had a triple in the victory, and Elliott Schubert also had a double.
Newnan has won five in a row. The Cougars travel to Pebblebrook on Tuesday for a region contest.
South Paulding 6, Northgate 4: At South Paulding, the Vikings saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end Friday while also dropping their first Region 5 6-A contest.
Northgate pitcher Reid Fagerstrom finished with 10 strikeouts for the Vikings.
Connor Fortner and Christian Dyer had two hits for the Vikings.
Northgate (13-3, 5-1)scored three times in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead, but South Paulding came back to tie the contest with a pair of runs in its half of the inning before jumping ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth.
The Vikings tied the game a final time with a run in the top of the sixth, only to have South Paulding rally back again, scoring twice.
Northgate returns to region action Monday at home against Alexander.
