The Northgate Vikings’ baseball team defeated Spalding 5-0 in a non-region road game Friday night in action played at Whitewater High School as part of the Wildcat Invitational.
Three pitchers went to the mound for Northgate with Ryder Willard picking up the win. Willard struck out nine batters in four innings.
Donavan Devane and Corbitt Cimadevilla each had two strikeouts in two innings of work.
Offensively, Andrew Baldwin drove in two runs, while Will Queen and Chase Bevil finished with two hits and a stolen base.
LOCUST GROVE 11, EAST COWETA 7: The Indians sent the game into the seventh tied 7-7 with help from a bases-loaded walk drawn by Bailey Psathas.
East Coweta matched Locust Grove with six hits apiece, but five errors equally played a role for the Indians, now 1-3.

NEWNAN 8, LAGRANGE 2: Lucas Mapp and Elliott Schubert each connected on two-run homers and fellow senior Will Wilbanks capped off the victory with a blast in the seventh among two-hits for Newnan, now 3-0.
On the mound, Jaxon O’Neal earned the win, striking out four in four innings.Jacob Blair added an RBI single in a three-run seventh. Tripp Fallon also added a two-run single to left in the win.
Johnny Cash pitched two innings of relief, allowing one earned run on a solo homer. Anthony Darrow pitched a scoreless seventh.
HERITAGE SCHOOL 7, GRIFFIN CHRISTIAN 6: The Hawks handed new head coach Greg Hamilton his first victory. by coming up with a key insurance run in the sixth. Jacob Cackett led off with a double and score on Hershall Smith’s clutch single.
Heritage connected for eight hits including a pair from cleanup hitter Chandler Retsky, who went 2-for-2 with a double.
Returning pitcher David White entered with one out in the seventh to record a pair of strikeouts to close out the win. Four Hawks pitchers combined for nine strikeouts and nine walks, with Cole Stephens posting two strikeouts and no walks in 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
Stephens also had a hit along with Andrew Rich, Jacob Rochester and Vinny Carnazzo.
East Coweta sweeps Locust Grove
Soccer lineups from East Coweta took turns earning victories in non-region play on Friday over Locust Grove at Garland Shoemake Stadium in opposing fashion.
The Lady Indians clamped down defensively and made the most of goals from Emily Darnell and Adriana Garcia in a 2-0 shutout.
East Coweta’s boys, however, turned up the offense in a 10-2 rout that included a pair of goals from Ezra Rubenstein and Ty Harrison.
The Indians also received tallies from Noah Shumake, Francisco Duarte, Peter Walker, Ismael Aguirre, Chase Manning and Baylor Asher, who began Friday by signing with Clayton State.
Newnan sweeps Fayette
Newnan soccer teams experienced victories on opposite ends of the spectrum during a non-region doubleheader on Thursday at Drake Stadium against Fayette County. The Lady Cougars won 11-1 win by the mercy rule, while the boys stayed unbeaten with a hard-fought 2-1 decision.

Lady Indians win Area 1-6A/7A opener
The East Coweta varsity girls lacrosse team defeated Pebblebrook 18-5 in its Area 1-6A/7A opener Friday night.
Senior Adelyn Ryan led the Lady Indians with five goals and one assist.
Juniors Kendall Buttry and Anna Robbins had two goals along with seniors Caitlin Moore and Katie Morganroth.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Allford also scored two goals, while junior Summer Watson scored one goal,
Newnan sweeps Northgate
Newnan lineups swept Northgate at home on Thursday, coming away with a 3-2 decision in girls and a 4-1 victory among boys.
The Lady Vikings picked up wins at No. 3 singles from Karrington Garrett (8-0) as well as No. 2 doubles in a 8-6 decision from Khayla Taylor and Kyra Garrett.
Northgate’s boys picked up a win at No. 3 singles from David Balboa, who held on for an 8-6 victory.
