The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m., therefore inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Christy’s Cafe, 27 Jackson St., Newnan-- was inspected on Dec. 27 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee personal items such as jacket hanging on the dish rack, a cell phone on the prep table, and an employee cup near food prep area. New violation.

Dairy Queen, 1700 Hwy. 34 E., Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 27 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed milk in prep-top cooler with expired date of 12/26/2017. New violation. Observed boxes of food items such as frosting, french fries, and chicken stored on the floor of the walk in freezer. New violation.

El Charro Newnan, Inc., 77 Bullsboro Drive,  Newnan-- was inspected on Dec. 27 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Buildup present on the ice machine in the main kitchen and at the drink station. Must clean often enough to prevent accumulation. New violation. Observed clean pots and pans stored in a plastic bin with a dead bug and buildup present. Dishes were removed, washed and sanitized, as well as the bin they were stored in. New violation.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries, 240 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 27 and received a score of 100-A. 

JR’s BBQ,, 2421 Corinth Road, Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 28 and received a score of 100-A. 

Magic Wings & Things, 47 E Newnan Road, Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 28 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Need Certified Food Safety Manager (CFSM). New violation. Observed raw chicken wings thawing in sink basin in main kitchen area, discussed with person in charge proper thawing methods. New violation.

Redneck Gourmet Cafe,11 N. Court Square, Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 28 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed food particles in microwave. New violation. Observed dust-like buildup on ceiling of walk-in cooler by fan grate and on the ceiling tiles near vent grates in the kitchen area. New violation.

Rednexican, 2 E Court Square,  Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 28 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed a split gasket on the walk-in cooler door. New violation.

Wendy’s, 381 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 28 and received a score of 100-A.
