The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m., therefore inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Burger King, 415 Bullsboro Dr., Newnan-- was inspected on Dec. 21 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed sugar bag in front food service drive-thru area and open grits bag on a prep table in the main kitchen. Food items must be sealed after opening. New violation. Observed dust on fan covers in walk-in cooler and one split gasket on cooler in front food service drive-thru area. New violation.

Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin-Robbins, 12 Bailey St., Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 19 and received a score of 78-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed a bag of waffle cone mix rolled down. Food items are to be stored sealed after opening to prevent pests. New violation. Observed no paper towels at the hand sink in the main kitchen. Paper towels were restocked. The hand sink was also blocked by brooms and tools when arriving. Hand sinks are to be accessible to promote regular handwashing. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Huddle House, 1430 Hwy 29 S,Newnan-- was inspected on Dec. 21 and received a score of 82-B. Inspector’s comments: Mold on lower area of deflector shield on ice machine. New violation. Wet wiping cloths stored in handwash sink-moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Katie Lou’s Cafe, 70 Main St., Senoia -- was inspected on Dec. 20 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed potato wedger by mop well. New violation. Observed dishwashing employee without hair restraint and one other employee in kitchen New violation.  

Little Caesars, 3219 Hwy 34 E, Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 21 and received a score of 81-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed the hand soap at the front handwashing sink was available, but the dispenser was off the wall. Hand dispenser is to be repaired. New violation. Observed buildup present on dishes stored on clean dish rack. Dishes are to be washed, rinsed and sanitized to prevent contamination and frequent enough to prevent accumulations. New violation.

McDonald’s, 1721 Newnan Crossing Blvd. E, Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 18 and received a score of 81-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee with long hair not completely restrained. New violation. Observed handwash sink without paper towels stocked in the dispenser. Rolled open and placed on top of dispenser during inspection. Dispenser will be stocked as required. Corrected on-site. New violation.
