The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m., therefore inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Eastside Elementary School Cafeteria,1225 Eastside School Rd., Senoia -- was inspected on Nov. 30  and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Unlabeled chemical spray bottles. Labeled during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Water at handwash sink failed to get hot. No water flow from cold water side. New violation.

Eat Thai, 33 Broad E., Newnan -- was inspected on Nov. 29 and received a score of 100-A. 

Lee Middle School Cafeteria, 370 Willis Rd., Sharpsburg -- was inspected on Nov. 28  and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Chocolate milk in the milk cooler was expired by one day. Milk was discarded. Corrected on-site. New violation. Mechanical dishwashing machine not getting to the proper temperature during the final rinse cycle to activate the test strip and needs to be repaired. The three-compartment sink will be used for sanitizing until machine has been repaired. New violation.

Newnan Crossing Elementary School Cafeteria,1267 Lower Fayetteville Rd., Newnan -- was inspected on Nov. 29 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comment: Observed some black buildup on ceiling in walk-in cooler near vent grates. New violation. 

Sky Zone Newnan,1098 Bullsboro Dr., Newnan -- was inspected on Nov. 21 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Single service cups on countertops stored with lip area exposed. New violation. Handwash sink in front of food service not supplied with paper towels. Single service items stored near handwash sink. Splash guard may be necessary to prevent contamination. New violation. 

Star Deli, 165 Temple Ave., Newnan -- was inspected on Nov. 27 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: The single service utensils stored at service counter area stored facing different directions. New violation. Buildup present on the handle and the inside of the reach in cooler of the top prep cooler. More frequent cleaning needed to prevent accumulation. Observed purchase stickers on the food storage containers in the freezer. Purchase stickers are to be removed prior to storing food to ensure proper cleaning of container. New violation.

Willis Road Elementary School Cafeteria, 430 Willis Rd., Sharpsburg -- was inspected on Nov. 28 and received a score of 93-A.  Inspector’s comments: Observed three cans with dents at the seams. Pulled to the side to throw away during inspection.Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed sanitizer buckets not at proper concentration for sanitization. More sanitizer added during inspection. Corrected on-site.

Wishbone Fried Chicken, 32 Jefferson St., Newnan -- was inspected on Nov. 16 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Hot water pressure in both ladies and men’s restroom is low. Single service utensils were facing different directions at the front food counter and the counter above the roll warmer. Single service utensils are to be turned so the handles are up.

Arbor Springs School Cafeteria, 4840 Hwy 29 N, Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 1 and received a score of 99-A.  Inspector’s comments: Small amount of ice buildup in walk-in freezer. Discoloration of floor tiles in some areas. New violation.

Benton House of Newnan Lakes, 25 Newnan Lakes, Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 4  and received a score of 96-A.  Inspector’s comments:Observed two ingredient bins without label. One bin was properly labeled. New violation. Observed dented cans stored with food for use in regular food storage and in emergency food storage. Pick up by vendor is scheduled for today. New violation. 

Ellis Arnall Middle School Cafeteria, 700 Lora Smith Rd., Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 4  and received a score of 99-A.  Inspector’s comments: Black substance on light shield inside in walk-in cooler, flaking paint on ceiling in chemical room. Ice buildup on hose inside walk-in cooler. New violation. 

Evans Middle School Cafeteria, 1 Evans Dr., Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 5 and received a score of 96-A.  Inspector’s comments: Bleach stored above tissue. Bleach moved to lower rack and tissue moved to upper rack. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Fat Boys Bar & Grill, 485 Hwy 16 W, Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 20 and received a score of 71-C.  Inspector’s comments: Observed employee licking fingers and grabbing a plastic basket for food. Advised to wash hands. New violation. Observed dish machine not sanitizing dishes. New violation.

Checker’s, 214 Bullsboro Dr., Newnan -- was inspected on Dec. 28 and received a score of 73-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed cheese sticks and chicken patties in the reach in freezer stored not covered. Food items were covered. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed empty soap dispensers in both the men and women restrooms. Soap in the main kitchen is not in the dispenser. Person in charge said it was broken and needs to be repaired to promote washing hands frequently. Corrected on-site. New violation.
