Detectives with the Newnan Police Department continue to investigate a woman’s claim she was kidnapped by an acquaintance and driven to Palmetto against her will.
The victim told investigators the man approached her Wednesday evening as she stood on Long Street.
The man implied he had a gun and forced the woman to get inside her car. He then told the victim to drive him to Palmetto, according to the police report.
For reasons not known, the victim allegedly drove the man to the Shenandoah area, the police report stated. The two switched places and the man drove to an unknown area in Palmetto, the victim said.
The woman told investigators while the suspect purchased a handgun, she called her sister and told her what was going on.
The sister immediately called 911, according to the police report.
The victim stated the suspect became angry, drove back to Newnan and jumped out of the car at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Dodson Street.
The woman later admitted to NPD investigators she has been “formally in a relationship” with the alleged suspect for several years.
No one was hurt in the incident, and no arrests had been made as of Saturday.
