The Newnan Cougars and the East Coweta Indians are headed to the Class AAAAAAA wrestling duals starting today at the Macon Centreplex.
Both wrestling teams earned their spots at this year’s event after qualifying last week at the Region 2-AAAAAAA tournament.
Only three teams competed in the region event, with Newnan and East Coweta rolling past Campbell before facing each other in the finals.
In the end, Newnan knocked off East Coweta 32-30, with both teams earning a place at the 16-team state tournament.
Newnan heads to the double-elimination event as the No. 1 seed and will face Collins Hill in their first match of the event. East Coweta faces Mountain View in its first round matches.
Today’s first round starts at 5 p.m.
With a victory, Newnan will face the winner of the Cherokee-Rockdale match, while East Coweta would face the winner of the North Forsyth-Tift County match Friday at 10 a.m.
Loser’s bracket matches will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m.
