After the snowstorm that crippled West Georgia last weekend, the UWG women's basketball team is set to travel to Clark Atlanta on Wednesday evening to take on the Panthers in a reschedule from Saturday's postponed game.

Conference play got off to a good start two weekends ago as the Wolves went on the road and got a pair of Gulf South Conference wins at Shorter and Lee to improve to 5-2 overall on the year.

The Panthers are 5-3 as they welcome the Wolves to L.S. Epps Gymnasium on Wednesday. Clark Atlanta is coming off of a 72-68 home loss to Winston-Salem State that snapped a four-game winning streak.

It’s been seven years since the Wolves and Panthers have met, with Wednesday’s matchup being the 17th meeting all-time and the first since a 53-52 CAU win in 2010. West Georgia has dominated the all-time series, holding a 15-1 advantage.

The Wolves are coming off of a historic win, defeating Lee 72-63 on Dec. 2, and for the first time since 1989 had three scorers with at least 20 points. UWG got 21 points from De’Ashia Jones and Kayla Carter while Jessica Brown chipped in with 20. The trio of Velisa Levett, Lisa Blackmon-Phillips and Cynthia Terry were the last UWG players to accomplish the feat in 1989.

Junior guard Aysha Harris is currently ranked 10th in the nation in steals per game, averaging 3.4. That number is tops in the GSC, while her 24 steals this season in tied for the GSC lead in total steals.

Clark Atlanta is led by Marissa Mandlelove who averages 13.3 points per game, and like UWG’s Harris is a maestro at the art of the steal. Mandlelove leads the SIAC in steals and ranks eighth in the nation with 3.57 steals per game.

In the post, CAU is led by Lauren Turner who averages 11.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.

Tipoff for Wednesday’s game in Atlanta is set for 6 p.m.
