Mae Rose Newsom Stone, 93, of Newnan, formerly of Albany, Ga. and Columbus, Ga., died Monday, December 11, 2017 at Wesley Woods.

She was married to J. K. Stone for 52 years before his death on December 12, 1994.

Born in Geneva County, Ala., she was a daughter of Domingus “Bud” Newsom and Theodosia Hinson Newsom. Mrs. Stone was a longtime member of Avalon United Methodist Church in Albany, Ga.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Stone enjoyed gardening and was the recipient of several Yard of the Month awards. A talented seamstress, she also enjoyed playing the piano and was a true fan of southern gospel music.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana Stone Ferrante and husband Michael of Newnan; a son, Gary Michael Stone and wife Beverly of Conover, N.C.; grandchildren, Joel Thompson and wife Lyn of Sharpsburg, Joshua Thompson and wife Ashley of Marietta, Kevin Stone and wife Kim of Columbus, Kristina Stone Moore and husband Clayton of Columbus; step-grandchildren, Christopher Ferrante and fiancé Claire Krebs of Atlanta, Nicholas Ferrante and wife Joni of Peachtree City; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 18, 2017 at 12 noon at Floral Memory Gardens, 120 Pretoria Road, Albany, Ga., with her grandson, J. Kevin Stone, officiating.

A celebration of Mrs. Stone’s life will be held at a later date.
