East Coweta cross country standout Kyle Harkabus is compiling an impressive resume.
It includes a third-place finish in the GHSA Class AAAAAAA cross country meet earlier this year.
It continued on a national stage last weekend, as the sophomore competed in the Foot Locker South regional race in Charlotte and finished seventh with a time of 15:06.8.
That was good enough to qualify him a spot in the Foot Locker Nationals this weekend in San Diego.
At the South Regionals, Harkabus got off to a slower start than he wanted, finding himself near the back, but maintained his pace, working himself back into the race.
With a half mile to go, he was in a large group as they began to circle the lake, and with 200 meters left, he put himself in position for a solid finish.
Harkabus was the second fastest sophomore in the race.
He was previously named to the Team Georgia XC squad by Atlanta Track Club, so he ran the 5K in Charlotte as part of the 12-man Georgia team.
Over 1,000 of the top runners from 13 states compete in the South Regional races for a chance to make it to Nationals.
The Top 10 runners from each region made the cut. Harkabus was the fastest runner from Georgia.
