Advent starts Sunday – the season for Christians to anticipate the coming of Christmas and to remember the coming of the birth of Jesus more than 200 years ago.

Church calendars are full with a wide variety of programs – music, drama, outreach. Among the events on church calendars are:

Today, Dec. 1

• “Christmas with the Southern Crescent Chorale,” Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church, 1183 Ga. Highway 92, Fayetteville, 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 adults, $15 students and seniors from www.southerncrescentchorale.or...

Admission at the door is $25.

This holiday tradition is returning for its 16th season. The Spalding High School Chorale and the Whitewater High School Chorale will perform along with the Southern Crescent Chorale.

The program features “two concerts of perennial Christmas favorites, accompanied by a full professional orchestra,” said Andrew Rose, publicity chair. “This concert is a wonderful opportunity to share the joy of Christmas with your  whole family.”

Saturday, Dec. 2

• Breakfast with Santa, Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 7-11 a.m.

• Christmas Bazaar and Golden Elephant Sale, St. Andrews in the Pines Episcopal Church, 316 N. Peachtree Parkway, Peachtree City, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sponsor: Episcopal Church Women.

• Christmas Craft Fair, FaithCreek United Methodist Church, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Vendors, refreshments, Christmas music. Proceeds to FaithCreek missions/ministries.

• Newnan Tour of Homes, 4-9 p.m. Sponsor: Newnan Presbyterian Church Preschool/Kindergarten. Tickets, $20 – newnantourofhomes.com or 770-253-5018.

• Parents Night Out, Barrow Fellowship Hall, Newnan Presbyterian Church, Greenville Street, 4-8 p.m. Ages 3-12. Beth Royal, church secretary, said there will be age-appropriate, Christian-based fun, games, crafts and a light meal and snacks. Free. Register: www.newnanpres.org/events

Sunday, Dec. 3

• Children’s Christmas Pageant, First United Methodist Church, sanctuary, Greenville Street, Newnan, 10 a.m.

• “Mary’s Child,” Emory Chapel United Methodist Church, 2677 Highway 34 West, 10 a.m. This musical celebration of Christ’s birth was put together by Elaine Lee, the longtime music director at Emory Chapel. A brunch with a visit by Santa will follow the service.

• Hanging of the Greens, Central Baptist Church, Brown Street, 10:55 a.m. Music will include cellist Sam Lowder.

• “Christmas with the Southern Crescent Chorale,” Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church, Fayetteville, 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 adults, $15 students and seniors from www.southerncrescentchorale.org or $25 at door.

• “More than a Baby,” sanctuary, Dunwoody United Methodist Church, 1548 Mt. Vernon Rd., Atlanta, 4 p.m. The church’s “annual family Christmas extravaganza” offers a time to “celebrate the season with our children’s choirs, youth bells and choir and tone chimes choir,” said Brentley Cauthen, fine arts administrator. After the concert there will be a live Nativity, “followed by a food truck dinner and hot cocoa at the church Christmas tree lot,” Cauthen said.

•  Children's Choirs Christmas, main sanctuary, First Baptist Church, Newnan, W. Washington Street, 5:30 p.m. Features six children’s choirs, handchimes, Revelation Handbells, carols.

• Christmas Program, East Newnan Baptist Church, 6 p.m. “There will be a live nativity scene, singing Christmas tree, choir orchestra, solos and testimonies,” said June Harris said of the time to “celebrate the birth of Jesus.”

• All-Church Christmas Dinner, Cathedral of Christ the King, 4881 Hwy 34 East, Sharpsburg, 6 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 7

• Drive–Thru Nativity, Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 6-9:30 p.m.

• Women’s Advent Service, Newnan Presbyterian Church, 6:30 p.m. Royal said all women of the community are invited. Sharon Edgar, chaplain at Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City will speak. The service will feature music and Holy Communion, and a reception will follow.

Each nativity is accompanied by Bible quotes and hymn texts. Admission, $5, under 12 free.

• NPC Christmas Parade Watch, Barrow Hall, Newnan Presbyterian Church, 5:30 p.m. “Family are invited for a free, light dinner, decorating Christmas cookies and making ornaments,” Royal said. • Christmas Concert featuring Vivaldi Gloria, sanctuary, Dunwoody United Methodist Church, 1548 Mt Vernon Road, 4 p.m. Several orchestral works will be presented by the Dunwoody UMC Chancel Choir and a chamber group, Musica Gloria. C.G. Walden III – a pastor, composer and conductor, will lead those attending “through a musical celebration of the birth of Christ,” said Brentley Cauthen, fine arts administrator.

• “Miracle on 34th Street,” fellowship hall, Dunwoody United Methodist Church, 1548 Mt Vernon Road, Atlanta, 7 p.m. The heartwarming holiday classic will be retold in the tradition of a live 1940’s era radio broadcast. When a department store Santa claims he’s the real Kris Kringle, his sanity is questioned and a young lawyer goes to court to defend him. Watch the miracle unfold when a little girl’s belief in Santa Claus makes all the difference in the iconic story. Recommended for ages 8-up. Tickets, $10 at the door.

Soloists for "Heaven's Child" will be Cynthia Eidson-Shumake, Jimmy Walker, Beth Walker, Cynda Pierce and Bill O'Hara.  “The narrators are Glenna & Roger With,” Miles said. Refreshments will be served after the musical service.

Liberty will not have a morning service that day.
