Coming off a 42-6 pounding of Shorter a week ago, the UWG Wolves moved higher Monday in the weekly football rankings.
Regionally, UWG moved up from sixth to fourth place in the weekly NCAA Division II Super Region 2 ratings. The Wolves climbed two spots, passing both Delta State and Bowie State (Md.) in the rankings.
Wingate (N.C.) continues as the top rated team in the region. Following Wingate are West Alabama, Virginia State and UWG. Bowie State is next in the rankings, followed by Catawba, Delta State, Miles, Virginia Union and Carson-Newman.
The top seven teams in the region in the final ratings on Nov. 12 receive bids to the NCAA Division II Playoffs. Conference champions do not receive an automatic bid.
Nationally, UWG returned to the Top 25 in the weekly American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll Monday, following a two-week absence. The Wolves were the 25th rated team in the weekly poll of 34 head coaches from around the nation.
UWG returns to action Saturday with their final road game of the 2017 regular season. The Wolves face Florida Tech in a 1 p.m. kickoff from Panther Stadium in Melbourne, Fla.
