The Northgate and Newnan swim teams competed in the Big Splash Meet at the Steve Lunquist Aquatics Center in Jonesboro on Saturday.
Northgate finished sixth in the overall competition with a combined score of 235.
Newnan was eighth overall with 153 points.
Among the top finishers for Northgate was Reed Ramthun, who finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.83. The time was good enough to qualify for the GHSA state meet later this season.
The Northgate boys placed two swimmers among the top three in the 500-yard freestyle, as T.J.Pittenger was second with a time of 5:18.68 and Reed Ramthun third with a time of 5:26.28.
With his time, Pittenger qualified for state.
Northgate’s 200-yard medley relay team of Reed Ramthun, Jack Long, TJ Pittenger and Zach Barineau finished sixth with a time of 1:59.53. They also finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.95.
Northgate’s Lauren Riles finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.50. Sydney Ramthun was sixth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:21.12. Riles was second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:48.03.
The Lady Vikings’ Christina Reagan was eighth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 3:03.72.
The Lady Vikings 200-yard medley relay team of Lauren Riles, Taylor Bratcher, Sydney Ramthun and Caroline Carter finished eighth with a time of 2:19.02.
Newnan’s Bethany Schenck finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:24.85. Teammate Jordyn Young was 13th with a time of 2:43.29.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Newnan placed two teams in the top 10 with the squad of Yannick Powder, Jaxson Jessup, Justin Young and Caleb Haynes finishing sixth in a time of 4:55.
The second Newnan relay team of Moises Lopez, Rex Haynes, James Branan and Nathan Hewett was ninth with a time of 6:02.
Yannick Powder was 13th in 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:17.05.
