The Newnan Times-Herald

Mark Whitlock, the founding CEO of Central Educational Center, talked about the school and its mission at recent meeting of White Oak Golden K.

CEC, Georgia's "model charter college and career academy," was developed by Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce leaders, the Coweta County School System and West Georgia Technical College. CEC opened Aug. 10, 2000.

CEC has been designated one of 30 "replicable model high school reform" programs in the United States by the International Center for Leadership in Education. CEC has now been replicated 39 times across Georgia in the Georgia College and Career Academy initiative.

Whitlock, who also is director of public policy for the Coweta County School System, spoke to Golden K at Sprayberry’s on Highway 34. In addition, he chairs the Georgia Charter Advisory Committee.

For 18 years prior to coming to CEC, Whitlock worked with Bank of America building corporate client relationships worldwide.
