The Northgate Lady Vikings basketball team finally broke its long losing streak, defeating the Coretta Scott King Lady Eagles 60-53 Tuesday evening in the 2017-18 season opener at Northgate High.
The Lady Vikings begin this season at 1-0 after finishing last year on a 19-game losing streak.
Northgate’s girls led Coretta Scott King 29-13 at the half and held on in the second half to win their home opener.
Leading scorers for Northgate were Chasidhe Godfrey with 28 points and Alexa Wilder with 23.
Northgate looks to make it two straight wins as they play the Lady Trojans of Banneker High Saturday at 4 p.m. at home.
East Coweta 69, Union Grove 66 (boys):
The East Coweta Indians basketball team rallied from a 21-13 first-quarter deficit to win a thriller over the Union Grove Wolverines 69-66 Tuesday evening in non-region action in McDonough.
The Indians (1-0) took a halftime lead by scoring 22 points in the second quarter. The Wolverines rallied, but EC held on for the season-opening road victory.
In girls action Tuesday, the EC Lady Indians lost to Union Grove 55-30.
