The Coweta Safety Council will tackle a delicate issue at its next meeting involving child sexual abuse.

The group will host the Stewards of Children “Darkness to Light” program. The presentation features people who are survivors of sexual abuse as a child.

According to the Darkness to Light website, one in ten children will experience sexual abuse before their 18th birthday. This means  whether you work with youth, are a parent or are simply a member of a community, it is highly likely that someone you know is an abuse victim.

The Darkness to Light program also provides preventative training called the 5 Steps to Protecting Children. Experts who work with children and families and confront abuse on a daily basis will teach sex abuse warning signs and symptoms.

A Darkness to Light coordinator will present participants with a certificate of completion at the end of the training session.

The Darkness to Light program will be presented at the next Coweta County Safety Council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Summit in the Newnan-Delta Community Credit Union building off Highway 34.
