Buildings, statues reminders of past

Recently I watched a video about U.S. parks and how a park in Seattle, Washington kept structures of an old electrical plant that were used to make the park.

What follows is a paraphrase of what Walter Hood, a landscape architect, said about the electrical plant structures used in the park: When asked about keeping them, he said they serve as a symbol and function as a reminder of a piece of the 20th Century and Americana, Why erase them?  The structures allow us to understand who we are, what we’ve been and  suggest where we can go in the future.

Although this was written about old electric plant structures, I thought one could put the word “statues” in place of the “electric structures” and get a new and forward outlook on the statues now being torn down.
