Brig Gen. Thomas J. Owens, assistant adjutant general for the New York Air National Guard, and New York Air National Guard Command Chief Master Sgt. Amy Giaquinto, left, present arms after placing a wreath at the tomb of Chester Arthur.

Arthur, the 21st president of the United States, is buried in Albany Rural Cemetery in the New York state capital. Ceremonies saluting him are held annually on Arthur’s birthday, Oct. 5.

Buried with Arthur is his wife, Ellen Lewis Herndon Arthur, who was the daughter of a Naval hero and a distant relative of the Herndon family from Haralson.

Arthur's successor was Grover Cleveland. Cleveland's wife, Frances, was a distant relative of the Miller family from Haralson.
