After losing to South Paulding on the first day of the Region 5-AAAAAA tournament earlier this week, the Northgate Lady Vikings came out of the losers bracket on Wednesday afternoon and got some revenge with a 9-1 victory in a game called after five innings.
Later in the day, they came back and beat top-seed Alexander 5-2.
Against South Paulding, Northgate scored eight runs in the first inning and added one more in the fourth to build a 9-0 lead. South Paulding scored its only run in the top of the fifth.
The Lady Vikings outhit South Paulding 7-4. Both teams committed four errors.
Alissa Bolinger pitched all five innings for the Lady Vikings and struck out four. She also had two hits and an RBI.
Sarah Turi drove in two runs for the Lady Vikings.
Ashley Kent, Natalie Heath and Liz Sebastian also had an RBI each.
In the game against Alexander, Northgate fell behind 2-0, but scored five straight runs, including one in the sixth and one in the seventh to force extra innings.
In the eighth, the Vikings exploded for three runs.
Bollinger had three strikeouts against Alexander.
Alexis Brandon led the offense with two RBIs.
The Lady Vikings got some revenge on top-seed Alexander from the regular season contest.
Alexander won that game 10-2. It was Northgate’s only region loss during the regular season.
