Frances Elizabeth Thomas knew full well that God never promised a storm free life on earth.
What He did promise, though, was His ever-present help, strength, love and amazing grace. Frances began her life in Newnan, Georgia where she was born on August 4, 1940. She was one of two daughters born to the late James Allen and Annie Florine Camp Thomas.
She attended The University of South Florida and spent her education career as a public school teacher. She lived in St. Petersburg, Florida for many years.
For many people, the diagnosis of MS would be a crushing blow, but Frances had an uncommon strength and had a very productive life for 40 years after that revelation.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Oliver Thomas.
Frances is survived by her devoted husband, Larry D. Thomas, Sr., to whom she was married August 13, 1960. Her sons are Larry Thomas and David Thomas. She was an attentive grandmother to Jeffrey and Brooke Orr, Michael and Brittany Wilder. Her great-grandchildren are Rilynn and Ansley Wilder. Her sister, Arleen Rollings, and her husband, Sonny, also survive.
Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street where the family will receive friends on Thursday evening between 6-8 p.m. A service to honor her life will be on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home to be led by Dr. Jimmy Dale Patterson. Interment will follow at Newnan’s historic Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Frances’ name to MS Life Center 950 E. Paces Ferry Road NE Suite 110 Atlanta, GA 30326.
