Kumon Center to offer Barta Scholarship

Kumon Math & Reading Center of Newnan will present the second annual Lynn Marie Barta Scholarship in the amount of $500 to a 2018 Coweta County high school graduate.

Lynn Marie Barta passed away from cancer in 1987 at the age of 12. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a Coweta County high school senior who plans to pursue studies at either a technical college or other college or university.

Coweta County high school seniors interested in applying for the scholarship may contact their school guidance counselors or Kumon of Newnan for information.

Valdosta State University announces summer graduates

Nearly 500 undergraduate and graduate students at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Ga., completed the requirements for their respective degrees during the summer 2017 semester, including these local students: Braelinn Gray of Senoia, master’s degree in early childhood education; Candis Smith of Newnan, education specialist’s degree in educational leadership; Jonathan Johnson of Sharpsburg, master of business administration degree; and Travis Smith of Newnan, education specialist’s degree in coaching pedagogy in physical education.
